Pop goes the question! Quick, prepare the champagne and whatever people drank in 16 B.C.
Xiang Xiang helps Gong Ming move into a new apartment. To be honest, I’m surprised that they don’t move in together because he’s been crashing at her place for a long time coming. After chatting a bit about the lack of time to read through all the books he bought in order to quickly catch up to the modern world, Xiang Xiang gives Gong Ming his first lesson – washing his face. So… all those other days, Gong Ming was just dirty? Eep, maybe it’s better not to think about that. They are super cute putting soap bubbles on each other though!
Gong Ming reads a magazine to educate himself on dating trends of 2015. He and Xiang Xiang go to a shopping mall first, and he buys her a Doraemon and a bunch of balloons. Pretty sure nobody actually does this except in dramas though. But you know what, go for it, Gong Ming, whatever makes you happy.
Ying Yue visits Wang Mang to comfort him, but he bursts out in tears after hearing her words because it’s exactly what his mother said when his father past away. Wang Mang faults himself for causing harm and pain on his loved ones – his mom and also his best friend, Gong Ming. 😦 Sad.
Xiang Xiang contemplates whether or not her text message is too lovey dovey, but she sends it anyway.
Xiang Xiang’s message: Are you home yet? Even though I just saw you, I already miss you. Do you miss me?
Gong Ming [calls her up]: I miss you too. Sleep early, you must be tired from today.
Xiang Xiang: It’s okay – I’m not tired. Besides, I have filming tomorrow afternoon. What are you up to?
Gong Ming: About to read some books.
Xiang Xiang: Reading again? What is it about books that they are so good to look at? Are they better looking than me?
Gong Ming: Are you getting jealous of books, too?
Xiang Xiang: Of course not! Today when you brought me back, I was going to invite you in, but you left.
Gong Ming: Because it was so late already, how can unmarried man and woman stay together.
Xiang Xiang: What? Am I g oing to eat you up?
Gong Ming: No, perhaps it is the other way around!
Xiang Xiang meets up with Gong Ming on their lovers’ bridge. He gives her his scarf to keep her warm and she excitedly talks about how easy it is to see him now that he lives so close. They return to her house to eat late night snacks and do facial treatments.
Things are looking up in 2015, but all is gloom still in 16 B.C. Wang Mang shares with Ying Yue what he saw as a child – a young boy servant killed by his master out on the street, leaving the boy’s mom crying. Wang Mang says his dream was to fix these problems so that people like the young boy do not have to be mistreated, yet he has lost too much in the process.
Wang Mang: Gong Ming and I played here as children, and when you came to stop us, we pushed you into the water instead. Do you remember that?
Ying Yue: I remember.
Wang Mang: After you got out from the water, you were really annoyed and pushed us in. I didn’t know how to swim, and I really thought I was going to die.
Meanwhile, Xiang Xiang goes to sleep after Gong Ming promises to not go anywhere. So these two lovebirds fall asleep together. Hey! Gong Ming, I thought you said unmarried folks should not be spending the night together? Even if nothing happens?
Gong Ming sneaks out in the morning to get breakfast and sees an elderly couple sitting by the park. He returns to Xiang Xiang and she wakes up to find a diamond ring on her hand! He tells her that he wants to spend the rest of his life with her and grow old together like the elderly couple he saw. She rejects his proposal because she doesn’t want to marry him if he just wants to take responsibility (wait, responsibility for what??). He tells that it isn’t the case because he is totally crazy head over heels in love with her. Moved by his words, Xiang Xiang decides to accept the proposal and thanks him for keeping it simple, especially since he had asked Xiao Nan for help.
Of course, Xiao Nan didn’t plan a simple proposal. He is coming in with roses and like a million balloons as they speak. Gong Ming apologizes for having already proposed, but it was only because Xiang Xiang woke up too early. Xiao Nan quickly leaves with all his stuff in tow, muttering that the plan was to make a heart with roses and have Gong Ming propose while standing in the middle of it. Hahahahaha!
Xiang Xiang kills a fur bear and wears it – nawh, jk, but seriously, she wears a huge fur baby. They make plans to meet up later in the day to go home together. Like home, home, to meet her dad. Thankfully, she puts him in something more normal – a shirt and tie. While showing him how to tie the tie, she pulls him in for a kiss. He comments that this use for the tie is great and asks for her to show teach him one more time. So they kiss again!
Wang Mang visits Zhang Heng and they exchange some words about Gong Ming. Wang Mang learns that Ying Yue is leaving on her own journey and quickly goes to find her. He asks her to go with him because he has waited for a long time to confess since she loved someone else, but he no longer wants to be a coward. In a corner, Zi Xiu is watching these two. NOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Let our Mang Mang have a happy ending, please!!!
Zi Xiu meets the masked elders to report on his findings. The elders suggest catching Ying Yue in order for them to find Gong Ming, even if it means killing Wang Mang in the process. Gong Ming overhears the Wang Mang actor stating that his scenes will end soon because the character dies. Gong Ming confirms the information on his phone and travels to 16 B.C. to meet Wang Mang one last time, leaving Xiang Xiang waiting for him again.
Now, Hold on a Minute:
- Xiang Xiang scolds Gong Ming for buying an expensive watch, but he tells her if he sold off the antiques he brought he can live for hundreds of years no problem.
- Na Na compliments Xiang Xiang on her performance as the empress.
- Tian Xiu gets dumped which makes Xiao Nan and Jing Jie SUPER happy, but they pretend to be SUPER sad in front of Tian Xiu.
- Xiao Nan picks out the engagement ring for Xiang Xiang, and the sales lady mistakes Gong Ming and Xiao Nan as a couple, even wishing them happiness together. LOL.
