Anna’s Recap

I know things are always are on an accelerated timeline in dramas than they are in real life, but everything’s just happening too fast! It’s like a whirlwind and a rollercoaster all wrapped up in one. Yes, I am mixing metaphors here. Still, if there’s one constant in all of this, it’s that Shan-Teng are very much madly in love. But enough chit chat from me; we’ve got two engagements and more to cover!

Even though the group had lied to Li Shu that Zheng Qi is back at Windgroup working, he’s right there waiting at the countryside villa for them. Li Shu turns right around and is ready to leave when she sees him, but Zheng Qi suddenly calls out to her and asks her to marry him. He even offers to burn all the old stuff that his old girlfriends/friends with benefits/regular ol’ friends gave him if it will make her happy. Even the gifts from regular friends? When Li Shu doesn’t respond, he runs up to her and pulls her in for a kiss. Shan Shan, Feng Teng, Yan Qing, and Feng Yue are all still standing by the side watching them make out. Not awkward at all.

Should we turn away?

Should we turn away?

Zheng Qi tells her that he fell in love with her the first time he saw her, and knew right then that she was “the one.” After spending too many years apart, he’s ready to spend the rest of his life with her. Li Shu responds that she doesn’t care about his past because from this day on, there won’t be anyone else for him but her. She happily says yes to his proposal, and he puts a ring on…the right hand. Wrong hand, Zheng Qi!

He liked it, so he put a ring on it.

He liked it, so he put a ring on it.

While everyone’s celebrating Zheng Qi and Li Shu’s engagement, Zheng Qi tells the group that everyone has to say something congratulatory to them or else they have to drink. Pour it up then. Ha, just kidding. Shan Shan and Feng Yue both say some stereotypical stuff to appease Zheng Qi, but no one really seems that into the drinking game. Instead, Shan Shan goes around toasting people and throwing back the wine. When she toasts Feng Teng, he tells her that he will only drink if they are interlocking arms and glasses. She happily obliges, and the other two couples quickly copy them. Cheers, y’all!

Crisscross.

Crisscross.

The next morning, Feng Teng and Shan Shan are both sleeping in his bed. Fully clothed though so obviously nothing happened last night. Feng Teng is woken up when Shan Shan thinks she’s dreaming and starts randomly touching his face. He wakes up her to stop, and she freaks out when she sees that she’s in bed with him. Feng Teng reminds her that right when things were getting hot last night, she drunkenly told him that they can’t fool around while they’re drunk. He says that he kept his word, of course, but now that they’re both sober…you know. When he tries to put the moves on her, Shan Shan leaps out of bed and runs to the bathroom. Guess today isn’t your lucky day, Feng Teng

Good morning.

Good morning.

Shan Shan passed her CPA exam and is promoted to Zhou Xiao Wei’s old position in their department. Yay! Later when she’s celebrating her promotion with Shuang Yi and Liu Liu, Liu Liu asks her if it’s time to tell her parents about Feng Teng. Now that their relationship is stabilized and she’s been promoted at work, there’s no better time, right?

Xue Shan Shan, CPA.

Xue Shan Shan, CPA.

Shan Shan calls her mom that night to tell her about passing the CPA exam and the promotion, and then casually slips in that she also has a boyfriend. Her mom is thrilled and asks if it’s Xiao Zhang, Feng Teng’s chauffeur that helped out Shan Shan when her grandpa was in the hospital. Shan Shan tells her that it’s not him, but it’s her coworker who has a slightly higher position. When she says that she’s dating her boss, her mom is so shocked that she’s speechless. The first thing she asks Shan Shan when she snaps out of it is if she’s being conned. Shan Shan insists that she’s not being conned and is really dating her boss, but her mom just won’t believe it. Finally, she has no choice but to hand Feng Teng the phone for him to confirm his identity.

You're not a con man, right?

You’re not a con man, right?

Feng Teng sends Shan Shan away when he’s on the phone with her mom, and refuses to tell her what they talked about. Instead, he asks her does she know what time it is. Shan Shan tells him that it’s 10 something at night. Feng Teng says that it’s already so late, and she’s still here with him so her mom must have assumed that he’s already “conned” Shan Shan of everything. I get what you’re saying, Feng Teng. But in all seriousness, he then tells her that she must finally trust him by telling her mom about their relationship. Feng Teng tells her to move in with him today, but Shan Shan tells him that it’s too late. He says that she can just move herself in first then. Oooohh. Shan Shan agrees to it and tells him to help her move her stuff over tomorrow. Feng Teng scoops Shan Shan into his arms and carries her off to the bedroom. Sexayyy.

Do not disturb.

Do not disturb.

Feng Yue calls Shan Shan at work to ask her to come with her to the hospital to donate blood to a mother and her daughter who were injured in a major car accident. Feng Teng gets annoyed when he finds out that Shan Shan left to donate blood without telling him first, but it’s too late because she’s already at the hospital. Feng Yue has to leave early because her baby is running a fever, so Shan Shan is there by herself. After waiting for her blood results to come back to see if she’s suitable for donation, the nurse calls Shan Shan up to to tell her that she can’t donate blood today because…she’s pregnant! Baby Shan-Teng!

Baby on the way!

Baby on the way!

Shan Shan spends a few minutes to herself to process that information before calling Feng Teng with the baby news. He’s in a meeting though so he doesn’t pick up her call. She resorts to texting him that she’s pregnant. Seems kind of weird to drop this bombshell over text, no?

Feng Teng...I'm pregnant...

Feng Teng…I’m pregnant…

Feng Teng immediately bolts from his meeting to find Shan Shan at the hospital. The first thing he does is pull her in for a hug. Awww. He tells her that they should get married. Not gunna lie, I expected more out of the Shan-Teng proposal scene.

Vegas, here we come?

Vegas, here we come?

In the car, Feng Teng calls Feng Yue to lecture her about leaving Shan Shan all alone in the hospital, but he doesn’t mention the pregnancy to her. He tells Shan Shan that it was a good thing that the nurse was observant and found out before she could donate blood. Feng Teng is going to have Feng Yue organize their wedding, and tells Shan Shan not to tell anyone about the pregnancy yet. When Shan Shan asks him why they have to keep it a secret, he explains that he doesn’t want people to think that they’re getting married because of the baby. But they kind of are, aren’t they? Shan Shan thinks to herself that while her mind is still a mess from finding out that she’s pregnant, she’s glad that Feng Teng is so calm and thinking of everything for her. Husband material, for sure.

The babydaddy.

The babydaddy.

During dinner with everyone, Feng Yue asks them why they’re getting married so suddenly and why did he propose at the hospital of all places. Zheng Qi chimes in that Feng Teng should have asked them to help him come up with a better proposal plan, like the one he had with Li Shu. Shan Shan thinks to herself that it couldn’t really be considered a proposal. Feng Teng ignores all of their questions and asks Feng Yue to take care of the wedding plans. Feng Yue complains that she’s already planning Li Shu’s wedding, so they should have these weddings one after the other. Feng Teng says that Li Shu and Zheng Qi’s wedding can take place later on because he needs to get married in less than 3 months. Hearing the 3 months deadline, everyone immediately jumps to the conclusion that Shan Shan’s pregnant. Shan Shan doesn’t know what to say, but Feng Teng quickly tells them that they’re being ridiculous. The only reason they need to get married so soon is because he’s going to be really busy with work later on.

Wedding in 2 months. Make it happen.

Wedding in 2 months. Make it happen.

At work, some of Shan Shan’s coworkers are gossiping about some celebrity who got knocked up by some rich guy and now there’s all this ugly drama about whether or not the baby is actually his. They talk about how so many of these girls nowadays are trying to use children to lock down a rich guy or at least the child support money. Shan Shan wonders to herself if Feng Teng ever thought to himself that she’s trying to use the baby to get him to marry her.

Feng Teng goes with Shan Shan to her doctor’s appointment, and the doctor tells them that she’s not pregnant. What?! Shan Shan asks her if she’s mistaken because the nurse the other day told her that her blood work indicated that she was pregnant. After more discussion with the doctor, they figure out that it was because Shan Shan ate something that day that messed up her blood levels, thereby indicating that she was pregnant when she wasn’t.

False alarm.

False alarm.

After they leave the doctor’s office, Shan Shan says that it’s a good thing that she didn’t go around telling people that she’s pregnant. Feng Teng asks her why she’s only concerned about herself if people found out she wasn’t actually pregnant because obviously he’s the one who would be stressed out. Shan Shan’s like what do you have to be stressed out about? He says that if she had told everyone about the pregnancy and then found out that it was a false alarm, then he would have to work extra hard to get her pregnant. Haha, like you wouldn’t enjoy that extra work, Feng Teng.

28-42

You’re funny, Feng Teng.

Feng Yue and Li Shu are picking out wedding invitations, and of course, discussing Feng Teng and Shan Shan. Feng Yue is still hung up on whether or not Shan Shan is pregnant, but Li Shu tells her that she’s overthinking things. If that’s the case, Feng Yue says she doesn’t get why her brother is insisting on having the wedding so soon. She knows that the doctor said that Shan Shan needs a few years to recover from her surgery before she can have kids. And since Feng Teng is the only son in the Feng family, she can’t help but think about the whole business of continuing the family line. Li Shu tells Feng Yue to chill and to just worry about planning the weddings.

Gotta think about that Feng legacy.

Gotta think about that Feng legacy.

Shan Shan thinks that even though she only thought that she was pregnant for a few days, she already developed some type of a bond with the baby. But she feels like Feng Teng doesn’t seem that concerned about whether or not there’s a baby anymore. She asks him if he doesn’t like kids, and that’s why he’s so nonchalant about the news. He tells her that he’s happy with her regardless of whether there’s a baby in the picture or not. Feng Teng says that Shan Shan is too young anyways to be a mother and still needs to play a little longer. Shan Shan says that he’s probably talking about himself. He says he does want to play and leans in…

Oh my. Is it getting hot in here?

28-47

What are you gettin’ at?

What Else is for Lunch:

During one of their regular Feng Teng and Shan Shan discussions (seriously, happens all the time), Feng Yue tells Yan Qing that she finally understands what her brother sees in Shan Shan. He needs someone who makes him happy and comfortable. In other words, he needs someone who’s the best for him, but not necessarily the best overall. I detect some shade there.

After getting off the phone with Shan Shan and Feng Teng, Shan Shan’s mom tells her dad that she said there’s a boy who likes her. When Shan Shan’s dad asks what kind of person he is, she tells him that he’s a rich guy. Papa Xue doesn’t seem overly thrilled about this, but Mama Xue lies and says that they aren’t serious or anything.

Since he successfully convinced Shan Shan to move in with him, Feng Teng reveals to her that he has been her landlord this whole time. Surprise!

  1. Anya says:

To be honest, this drama is kinda slow (I’m sure 20 episodes would have been enough) and the plot too cliched and overdone at times for me. The first ten or so episodes were really great though.
Nevertheless, thanks for all your work in recapping this!

    • @Anya: I think the multiple eps of all that Li Shu craziness made the drama drag a bit, but I just love Shan-Teng so much! Their cuteness makes up for it =)
