Anna’s Recap

Here’s to hoping that Li Shu finally gets that Feng Teng doesn’t like her, and never will. But then again, he’s rejected her multiple times before only to have her storm back with another evil plan to steal his heart. How many more ways can he tell her that she’s not his cup of tea? Maybe Zheng Qi can distract her this time with his eye roll-inducing love confessions.

After Feng Teng and Li Shu’s very heated confrontation about her shadiness towards Shan Shan, Zheng Qi decides to break Bro Code Rule #1: Bros before hos, and is running off to comfort Li Shu. Because he was apparently deaf during that entire argument, Zheng Qi tells Li Shu that she’s now a better person because of her persistent pursuit of Feng Teng. Zheng Qi explains that she’s now more beautiful and mature and blah blah blah. Maybe Zheng Qi needs glasses because all I saw was Li Shu’s ugly personality. His words are so ridiculous that even Li Shu herself is having difficulty believing it.

Believe me.

Believe me.

To continue cheering her up from failing to homewreck Shan-Teng, Zheng Qi takes Li Shu around England playing random games of pick-up soccer games on the streets. Let me just add that she’s wearing stilettos while playing soccer…ugh. After a long day of strolling the English streets, they run into a bunch of ruffians that are literally hanging out under a bridge. Lol. When the two guys try to flirt with Li Shu, Zheng Qi steps in to protect her and ends up getting his ass kicked by them. He’s rescued though when the police come by and the ruffians quickly run away. If Zheng Qi was trying to appear manly, he failed terribly.

Ouchie.

Ouchie.

Back at the hotel where Zheng Qi is nursing his wounds because he refused to go to the hospital, Feng Teng drops by to ask why they weren’t more careful. Yeah, everyone knows bridges is where the danger’s at. Both Li Shu and Zheng Qi try to take the blame for what happened, but Feng Teng tells them that they are both at fault. Li Shu jumps in to tell Feng Teng to drop the subject already and to leave because she needs to take care of her boyfriend. Oh, Zheng Qi is your boyfriend again?

Ice that face.

Ice that face.

When Zheng Qi wakes up from his nap, he sees that Li Shu has fallen asleep on the bed as well. So of course, he scoots over to where she is to watch her sleep. She wakes up and sees his face inches from her own, and obviously tries to move away but Zheng Qi tells her not to move. Li Shu thanks him for cheering her up the entire day, and he tells her that he wouldn’t mind getting punched a few more times if it means that she’ll be happy. She says that after what happened with Feng Teng, she realized all these bad sides to herself. You’re just realizing that now? We all realized it the moment you appeared on screen.

Too close for comfort?

Too close for comfort?

Zheng Qi asks her does she still want to continue pursuing Feng Teng, and she doesn’t exactly answer him. He then asks if it was her true self that said she is especially happy being around him. Li Shu replies that in a relationship, it should be that happy. What’s with all these roundabout ways of talking. Hearing this, Zheng Qi makes his move and kisses her. She kisses him back. Not sure if anything else happened though.

Or not.

Or not.

The next morning, Zheng Qi wakes up to find Li Shu not beside him and not in the hotel room. He finds a note from her saying that she’s gone back to China because she needs more time to think things through. Zheng Qi quickly calls Feng Teng to tell him that Li Shu left, and he’s afraid that she’s going to disappear and hide from them in Shanghai. Well…would anyone be that sad if she did hide herself away from them for awhile? Don’t answer that, Zheng Qi.

See ya later.

See ya later.

Back in Shanghai, Li Shu intends to move out of the Feng mansion, but Feng Yue stops her. Instead of helping her move, Feng Yue takes her to pick up Shan Shan to visit Shan Shan’s grandpa in the hospital with her. At the hospital, Li Shu apologizes to Shan Shan about the “Mrs. Feng” situation in England, and of course Shan Shan tells her it’s all good. She tells Shan Shan that she’s a very nice girl that everyone would like, and if before it seemed like she looked down on her, it’s only because she thought Shan Shan could be even better. Shan Shan realizes that Feng Teng must have argued with Li Shu about this, and tells her not to worry because she really wasn’t upset by it.

You're not going anywhere.

You’re not going anywhere.

When Li Shu hears that Shan Shan never heard from Feng Teng what happened in England, you can totally see her regret giving that fake apology to her. She tells Shan Shan that she wishes she could be more like her because she’s so naive and without reservations about people. Li Shu claims that she now understands why Feng Teng likes Shan Shan so much. Nope, ain’t buying anything she says.

What are you talking about?

What are you talking about?

After the hospital visit, Feng Yue tells Li Shu that she didn’t have a good impression of Liu Liu’s side of the Xue family, mainly because Liu Liu’s douchey boyfriend and annoying mom were there. Li Shu tells her not to worry so much because Feng Teng is dating Shan Shan and not her family. Hearing Li Shu defend the Shan-Teng relationship, Feng Yue knows that something must have happened in England. Wow, even her best friend knows that Li Shu would never normally say nice things. She asks Li Shu if she had confessed everything to her brother in England. But before she can answer, Zheng Qi barges into the room.

Oh. Hi.

Oh. Hi.

Out on the porch by themselves, Zheng Qi asks her why she left so suddenly from England. Li Shu tells him that she did that because she needed more time to think about things by herself. Zheng Qi wants to know if she needs more time to think about Feng Teng. Li Shu admits to him that she’s liked Feng Teng for 12 years, and when she woke up next to Zheng Qi and found herself to not like Feng Teng anymore, she didn’t know what to do. She stopped liking Feng Teng after literally half a day? Psh, who are you kidding. Zheng Qi excitedly asks her if she doesn’t like Feng Teng, then does that mean she likes him? Li Shu says that she isn’t sure if the person she likes is him.

Do you like like me?

Not giving up, Zheng Qi asks her two questions. The first one being, does she know that he really likes her? She says yes. Second, is there a chance that she will like him? When Li Shu tries to avoid answering the question by saying she doesn’t know, Zheng Qi tells her that he just needs a “yes” or “no” answer from her. She says yes…but not right now. If she starts liking him now, it’d be unfair to everyone. Zheng Qi tells her that her answer is good enough for him. He is willing to wait for her but not forever, so she better figure it out soon.

I'm very good at waiting.

I’m very good at waiting.

Shan Shan goes to pick up Feng Teng from the airport, and he suggests that they go to the hospital to visit her grandpa. Shan Shan immediately looks panicked, and Feng Teng asks her what’s wrong. She tells him that nothing’s wrong exactly, but she just hasn’t told her family about them. Feng Teng asks why she didn’t tell him that her parents came to Shanghai and that her grandpa was ill. Shan Shan says it’s because he was away, she didn’t want to bother him. He wants to know if she kept their relationship a secret from her family because she’s not confident in it and thinks that they’re inevitably going to break up. He asks what about their relationship is so shameful that she’s afraid of other people knowing?

Top secret.

Top secret.

When Shan Shan thinks about what Feng Teng said, she wonders if he was right. She tells herself that you can’t blame her for not wanting to broadcast their relationship for everyone to know because she’s already experience firsthand at work what it’s like when everyone wants her and Feng Teng’s relationship to fail. She ends up venting all her frustration by playing video games, specifically the fighting one she used to play when she was annoyed with Feng Teng. She wonders to herself why she keeps thinking that they will eventually break up…

Sooner or later?

Sooner or later?

At the Fengs, Feng Yue tells Feng Teng that Li Shu isn’t coming downstairs to eat dinner with them because she’s not feeling well. Feng Teng knows the real reason why she’s avoiding him, so he goes to see her. He apologizes for yelling at her in England, but Li Shu tells him that it’s unnecessary because she never planned on apologizing. She stands behind everything that she said to him. Wowww.

Knock knock.

Knock knock.

Feng Teng tells her that he actually has seen the copy of The Great Gatsby that she gave him before, and already knew about her feelings for him. Li Shu asks him why he never told her he’s seen it. Feng Teng says whether or not he’s seen the book is unimportant because he’s always looked at her as his younger sister. He knows that she has a lot of opinions about Shan Shan, but she is his girlfriend and that is his choice. Thank you very much. Li Shu knows that no one can change his decision, and that she wanted was a clear answer from him. Yo, he gave her plenty of clear answers before this whole fiasco!

Rejection #3

Rejection #3

Feng Teng asks Li Shu if being with him is a very tiring and difficult thing for a woman. Li Shu knows that he’s talking about Shan Shan, and tells him that yes, it’s going to be difficult but Shan Shan is working hard at it. She tells him that it’s definitely going to be difficult for any woman to be with him because they need to work extra hard to match his perfection. Feng Teng argues that he’s not perfect. Despite everything, he still thanks her for everything that she’s done for him. What exactly has she done for him except try to ruin his relationship with Shan Shan?

Back to square one.

Back to square one.

With grandpa’s condition stabilized and well enough to leave the hospital, Shan Shan and Liu Liu say goodbye to their family at the train station. Before they leave, Shan Shan’s dad asks her whose phone number it is that is on her ID tag that lists her blood type and emergency contact info. Remember how Feng Teng gave her a custom made metal tag with him as the contact person? Shan Shan lies and says that her coworker helped her get a metal tag because the previous one was too flimsy, and that the phone number is Liu Liu’s.

Quick! Think of a lie.

Quick! Think of a lie.

After sending off her family at the train station, Liu Liu asks Shan Shan if Feng Teng didn’t come to the hospital all this time because he knows that she hasn’t told her family about them. Shan Shan tells her that not only does he know that she’s keeping their relationship is a secret, he’s angry with her because of it.

Is it just a lovers' quarrel?

Is it just a lovers’ quarrel?

What Else is for Lunch:

Shan Shan’s mom and Liu Liu’s mom are absolutely convinced that Shan Shan is dating Xiao Zhang, Feng Teng’s chauffeur.

On the car ride to the hospital together, Shan Shan asks Li Shu how England was. Li Shu immediately pretends to have fallen asleep to avoid answering Shan Shan’s questions. Smooth.

Liu Liu’s bf was at the hospital when they got there, and obviously tries to befriend Li Shu because she’s also well-known and rich. Shan Shan can barely hide her disgust at seeing him there.

Liu Liu was avoiding her bf after they broke up, but he kept showing up at her place and her mom happened to see him there. Her mom told Liu Liu that if she doesn’t get back together with her bf, then she’s going to bring her back to their hometown with her.

Too sunny in the airport.

Too sunny in the airport.

  1. Wow, I wish I got some warning the inherently racist views of the Chinese were going to come out on this episode because every kind person in England in white and all the nasty ones are black, yeah? *sigh*
